Lynn Azzinaro Broker/Owner of Re/Max South County

A graduate of URI with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Lynn Azzinaro decided that in 1986 a real estate license combined with her background would propel her toward a successful career.

Thirty-five years later, Azzinaro is still at the top of her game. Times have changed in many ways since Lynn started, from the tools being offered to realtors to the ever-changing market conditions.   In 1986 there was a big black and white Multiple Listing Book that agents had to reference for inventory.   It was guarded for life: Stamped on the front cover: "For Licensed Agents Only. Fines May Occur."  Spring forward to 2012 and the "world wide web" and internet access, consumers are now doing 90% of their real estate searches on line; and fax machines and scanning have pretty much replaced automobiles and snail mail when it comes to delivery of information.

Lynn has been through several up and down markets.  In 1986 single- family home prices were an average of $85,000 and peaked in 1989 at $129,900.  A national recession and a banking crisis in Rhode Island, caused in large measure by an over extension of loans and high-risk borrowers, dragged home prices down.  They bottomed out between 1994 and 1995, settling around $115,000. It took close to 10 years to rebound.  In 2000 prices were at $135,900, and then -- South County was discovered. Our beautiful barrier beaches and our proximity to Boston, New York and Hartford exploded our real estate market, which peaked in 2007 with prices topping out at over $300,000 for an entry level home.  In October of 2008, just after the Stock Market dipped to the lowest in 10 years, Azzinaro felt the local market begin to fall off the face of the earth again to the tune of 20% to 30%.  A repeat of history as they say; bad loans and Wall Street corruption put the market and the economy to an ever-so-precarious position.  2012, sellers and buyers   began to be on the same page. Real estate is based on what the market will bear, and supply and demand. Current trends in 2013 -2014 have been the return of the second home buyer and investors.
